About MHS
Melbourne High School is the selective boys' school in South Yarra. JT Education tutors Melbourne High's Edutest Year 10 entry (exam mid-2027, for 2028 entry). Melbourne High's Year 11 intake is a separate application and interview, not this exam. Our Melbourne High tutoring is for the Year 10 paper: weekly classes, the same trial form as JMSS, and alumni tutors who have sat a selective entrance exam.
The paper we teach
Melbourne High's Year 10 entry uses the Edutest selective paper shared with Mac.Robertson, Nossal and Suzanne Cory: numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, reading comprehension and mathematics (30 minutes each), plus a 15-minute written expression task. You apply to each school separately; one sitting counts for every school you apply to. Year 11 entry at Melbourne High is by the school's own application and interview, and the main Year 9 round is ACER. We teach the Edutest Year 10 paper.

The entrance exam paper
Numerical reasoning (30 min)
Patterns, ratios and data under a tight clock. The mark comes from spotting structure quickly.
Verbal reasoning (30 min)
Analogies, word relationships and deduction in language. Breadth of reading matters more than a word list.
Reading comprehension (30 min)
Unseen passages: inference, tone, and the evidence behind each answer.
Mathematics (30 min)
Fluency across arithmetic, algebra, geometry and worded problems, at the level a selective school assumes.
Written expression (15 min)
One short timed piece judged on structure, clarity and control. Fifteen minutes leaves no room to draft twice. Scholar and Accelerator both include 4 human-marked writing tasks a month.
MHS tutoring
Melbourne High tutoring uses the Victorian selective classes: Maths, Science and English content, an applied Edutest session capped at 6, and an optional drop-in. Scholar is $646 a month and Accelerator is $896 a month for this three-subject paper, billed every 4 weeks. Big Brain practice is included in that price.
