About JMSS
John Monash Science School is the specialist science school on the Monash University campus in Clayton. Entry is at Year 10 and Year 11, through an Edutest paper built around mathematics, numerical and scientific reasoning, and science writing. JT Education's JMSS tutoring is built for the mid-2027 sitting for Year 10 entry in 2028, with a separate Year 11 stream.
The paper we teach
The JMSS Year 10 entrance exam is set by Edutest and is specific to JMSS: Mathematics, Numerical Reasoning and Science Reasoning multiple-choice papers, plus two 30-minute science writing tasks (Science Analysis and Reporting, and Science Interest and Communication). Shortlisted students then do group activities and an individual interview. Year 11 entry has its own Edutest paper (Mathematics, Numerical Reasoning, Science Knowledge, Science Reasoning and Science Writing Skills). We teach both. The Year 9 ACER selective test is a different exam, and we do not prepare for it.

Edutest
The entrance exam paper
Mathematics (60 questions, 30 min)
Fluency across arithmetic, algebra, geometry and worded problems at speed.
Numerical reasoning (50 questions, 30 min)
Patterns, sequences and data. The mark comes from spotting structure quickly.
Science reasoning (30 questions, 30 min)
Reading experiments, tables and graphs and drawing the conclusion the data supports.
Science analysis and reporting (writing, 30 min)
A written response that analyses a scientific scenario or data set.
Science interest and communication (writing, 30 min)
A written piece on a science topic, judged on clarity and genuine engagement.
JMSS tutoring
JMSS tutoring at JT is weekly classes with alumni who sat the entrance exam and gained entry. Year 10 students take Maths and Science content (capped at 18), an applied Edutest session (capped at 6), and an optional drop-in. Practice sits on Big Brain, included in the Scholar and Accelerator plan price. The next step is a free trial week for 2028 entry, booked on the form on this page.

JMSS has not published 2028-entry dates yet. For 2027 entry, applications closed in late May 2026 and the Year 10 test was Saturday 13 June 2026, so expect a similar window in 2027. Our cohorts run toward that exam. Confirm the date on the school site before you lock a plan.
